Do you use terms like "bro," "dude," "man," "sis," etc., when speaking to others here on EC and/or elsewhere online?

How about in real life? Do you "bro"/"dude" people?

    -----------------

I personally don't really use such terms online, and even less in real life. I had a college friend call me "broski" and it was always pretty funny and weird for me (maybe the fact that he was a New Jerseyan made it funnier).

If I were to use such terms, it would be in an almost contrived manner.

I usually only say dude but I use it online and offline

Online I use"bro" a lot especially in emails. IRL I use dude a lot. But females usually get called by their name.

Guess it's better then my work friend who uses "fool".

The first time I heard anyone use the term "fool" in that context was in middle school. I honestly swear that I thought he said, "What's up Fu ." For some reason, I thought it was a pejorative against Chinese folks.

To emphasize how silly "bro" sounds to me, yeah, sometimes. But seriously? No. I tend to go with "Dude", "Dudette", "'Ey Yo!", "S'appenin' playa".

No idea why I drop the 'H' in 'happening' and replace it with a 'S'; it just rolls off the tongue I guess.

I sometimes use "playboy" or "playgirl", when complimenting somebody on a boss moment. For example, if someone makes a 3-point shot in basketball, I might say, "Wicked shot, playboy!" or "That's how you do it, playgirl!".

I think my favorite, though, is "Wonka". I don't know if it's popular where any of you all are from, but around here, it's what I call someone, when something good happens. For example, somebody gets paid. Instead of saying "sweet, dude", I'll opt for, "Wonka".

I'm hoping the last one catches on...

    LOL.

Dude in real life only. I never use it while typing or writing. However, I don't really use it to address someone. It just kind of pops up in my sentences while having a conversation. I never bro, ever. Way too Jersey Shore-ish, and I can't stand those New Yorker's that caused me to get "Jersey Shore" follow up questions when I said that I lived in New Jersey. /partial rant lol

I use so many made up words when I talk that I honestly am not sure. I don't like being called dude or bro(I'm not either) - so I don't use them in person. On here it depends on the mood and to whom I am responding.

I only use the term dude with younger kids. I do use the terms mate and pal quite regularly though. On rare occasions I also use terms like love or sweetheart.

I don't use the term sis and I don't like terms like babe.

    Happy days

There was a point in my life (maybe around 6, can't remember but it was early on), that I started to feel it was in a condescending and patronizing when adults would call me "little man," "dude," or any other "special" term because of my age. Of course, I would smile and play nice because it was expected . Not sure how others my age felt; maybe I was simply weird :icon_wink.
